Challenge

The Winnebago parts catalog contains product lines with multiple model years. Dealers needed to be able to quickly and intuitively find vehicles and then locate parts among the thousands available.

The current ordering process with all relevant data points needed to be captured while simplifying and streamlining the steps to completion.

All parts are under warranty. Winnebago needed the Dealer Portal to implement the time consuming claims process.

Wireframing

Collaborating with a solutions architect an expandable sidebar navigation was created to quickly find vehicles and a clickable map of the model layout to locate parts.

Parts ordering and warranty flows were implemented through recursive collaborations with the parts team. Feedback was gathered and implemented in interactive wireframes, then published for iterative client testing.

Design

The customer facing website of that time was used as inspiration for color, font and layout choices in the design.

Close familiarity with client expectations helped with design inspiration and resulted in quick signoff for all comps.

Site Creation

Screens were chosen from the design which covered all HTML structures and the webpages were created using HTML/CSS within the CMS with Razor extending functionality.

Close collaboration with a solutions architect helped implement React JS friendly interface for the warranty process created.

Project Evaluation

It was such a thrill to visit Winnebago in Forest Hills, IA and have a workshop with their team. During the workshop I produced an initial interactive wireframe that reflected their current parts ordering process as an online experience. At post workshop meetings I was able to accurately refine their business processes, incorporate feedback, and obtain signoff. My graphic designs for the portal were presented soon after and met with approval. I created the complete site in HTML, CSS and JS before handing it off our development team. Having technical knowledge of databases and programming helped with later collaborations with the development team.

Outcomes

The dealer portal has become a powerful tool for Winnebagos' dealers. They can locate vehicles and use interactive floorplans to drill down through modules to find the part that they need, place their orders and then track them in a timely manner. These processes, along with creating product order sheets, pricing lists and order management saves the company many hours of managing dealer requests, orders, and warranty claims thereby improving their service offerings and generating signifigant ROI.
